The mechanic also noted that the control arm bushings and ball joints have worn out quite a bit and need replacement, which was surprising.

50,000+ kms minor update of Godot – My AWD XUV700:

I had been observing for the past few weeks that Godot would often sway quite a bit when driven sedately on good tarmac roads. The suspension sound also had gotten worse with something feeling loose and about to fall off. Since I had to drive 250 kms the next day for my training, I had Godot taken to my preferred Mahindra A.S.S., i.e. Apex Mahindra.

As I was preoccupied in preparing for the long trip, I hadn’t had the time to book an appointment. While on the way, made a call to the ASC’s General Manager Mr. Nubul, and he, without any hesitation or issues squeezed Godot in for a quick checkup.

Despite the service centre being small and quite backed up with cars, Godot was attended to immediately and taken for a TD with me in the front. Upon hearing the loose sound from the front suspension area, the Mechanic mentioned the same to me. I was insistent that this sound was there from the very first time we purchased the car and was a “factory feature” of Mahindra XUV700s. The Mechanic however told me that while XUV700s had loud suspension, this particular noise wasn’t present in other XUV700s.

The car was then inspected and it was found that the front LH and RH link stabiliser bars were in a terrible condition. They showed the difference between a proper functioning link stabiliser bar and the ones in my car.

Old LH and RH Link Stabiliser Bar – Notice the section I marked which had to be cut off due to the nut not loosening despite repeated attempts

I gave them the go ahead and only then they went ahead with replacing the worn out/affected parts. I am putting the parts number here for reference to others who might also face the same issue.

The front LH and RH link stabiliser bars cost only ₹969 each.

Anyway, once the new parts were fitted, the car was taken for another TD and I was amazed at the difference. Since Day 1, the car had this issue and we thought it was normal for the suspension to sound that way. Over time, the sound had gotten worse but would only appear every once in a while when driven over speedbreakers, potholes, etc at speed (say 20-30 kmph). Thinking that it was normal, we hadn’t thought much about it and it was only after the sound got worse and the effects became more pronounced that the issue was caught and rectified.

The mechanic mentioned that the front driver side tyre is in need of replacement so will be purchasing a new set of shoes for Godot once I’m back from my training. Surprisingly, they lasted a good 50,000 kms+ with more than 2.5 mm tread depth still remaining. However, due to not taking Godot for wheel alignment on time, the front driver side has been excessively worn on the inside.

The mechanic also noted that the control arm bushings and ball joints have worn out quite a bit and need replacement, which was surprising. I think this might also have contributed to the drive side tyre’s excessive wear on the inside. Have told them that will replace them after returning back as it was already quite late.

On the drive back home, it was pure bliss, since even on bad patches, the suspension while not super silent, was quiter than the day we had received Godot.

My heartfelt thanks to the hardworking team at Apex Mahindra, especially to the ever helpful, Mr. Nubul, the General Manager, as well as Mr. Rovi, the Service Manager for squeezing me in, despite their hectic schedule and resolving my issue. If not for my preferred ASC, I would have sold my 1st Mahindra long back.
