Did a one week self drive trip around Phuket, Bangkok and Pattaya and rented with Hertz in Phuket and BKK. It was a flawless experience and had a great time visiting places with the freedom of our own car. I made both bookings through Klook.com(didnt check in the Hertz website) and had opted for Honda City or equivalent class(they have wierd classifications) and in both places got upgraded to a Toyota Veloz and a Honda Civic in top shape. Had a blast driving the Civic from BKK to Pattaya. The Veloz too was very easy to handle and had a bone chilling AC and only 3k Kms on the odo while the Civic had 30k kms and didn’t have a sign of wear and tear. Both cars had very good sunfilm, apple Carplay and I believe the cops could not recognize that we were foreigners and only caught the ones riding two wheelers.
They need a credit card deposit of 10000 THB which was refunded to me from Phuket branch the next day of car return. Still waiting for the deposit from the BKK branch. Drove in various roads and till the centre of Bangkok but didn’t have issue with the cops anywhere.
I obtained eSIM online from Klook and this was also hassle free, got an unlimited 5G data eSIM for 600 INR.
