Kalaburagi: A video of a group of laborers handling their deceased co-worker’s body in an inhuman manner near a cement factory in Sedam, Kalaburagi district, has gone viral, triggering outrage.
While the incident occurred on February 17, police had already taken legal action against the accused. However, the footage surfaced on Wednesday, drawing sharp criticism.
Although an ambulance was arranged to transport the body, six of Singh’s co-workers took the body almost dragging along the road and loaded it onto a vehicle. Their intention, police suspect, was to take the body inside the factory and create an issue.
While the incident was dealt with on February 17 and 18, the circulation of the video today has reignited public outrage, prompting condemnation from various quarters.
“The deceased laborer was working for the contractor undertaking construction work in the premises. Six persons who tried to create an issue have been arrested. They are now in Judicial Custody,” Kalaburagi district SP A Srinivasulu told Deccan Chronicle.
Labor Minister Santosh Lad, reacting to the incident, condemned the inhuman act and assured strict action against the accused.
“It is shocking that workers could treat a deceased colleague in such a brutal manner. I have seen the disturbing visuals, and this should never have happened. Humanity must come first, and everyone must respect the dignity of the dead,” he said.
The minister further stated that he had spoken to the Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police and sought a detailed report on the case.
