Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Y. Satya Kumar Yadav on Wednesday conducted surprise inspections at the New Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada, and enquired about the quality of services being provided there.
The Minister, during the three-hour inspection, visited various departments and wards, spoke with the patients waiting in queue for out-patient registration, asked them about the waiting time, availability of doctors, their conduct, and cleanliness at the hospital.
Asked about the quality of food being provided at the GGH, a dietician informed the Minister that food was being served in such a way that every patient received 2,417 kilo calories per day.
The Minister, after visiting the pharmacy and enquiring about the availability of medicines, suggested to GGH Superintendent A. Venkateswara Rao that the number of pharmacy counters be increased.
Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav also interacted with a woman, who was admitted to the GGH on Tuesday with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) symptoms.
The Minister asked the GGH Superintendent as to why the patients’ kin were having to lug the stretchers and wheelchairs. The official informed that there was skeletal staff at the hospital. In response, the Minister instructed the authorities concerned to take steps to fill the vacant posts.
He found that while sanitation on the premises was satisfactory, he ordered immediate repair of the broken bathroom doors.
Later, Mr. Satya Kumar held a discussion regarding various issues with the Superintendent, Siddharth Medical College Principal and officials of the Directorate of Medical Education.
