Odisha Governor Haribabu Kambhampati has written to Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu, and the CEOs of Air India and IndiGo Campbell Wilson and Peter Elbers respectively seeking air connectivity between Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar.
The Odisha Governor recalled that there used to be direct flights between the two cities in the past. “Visakhapatnam, the largest city in A.P., is also an industrial base and a major port city and shares a complementary economic and strategic relationship with Bhubaneswar to benefit the people of both States.”
“The temple city of Odisha and capital of the State has the world famous Sri Jagannath temple at Puri. Bhubaneswar is emerging as an IT and educational hub. Enhanced connectivity will serve as a catalyst for fostering trade and tourism. Air India may consider operating flights from Chennai to Kolkata via Visakhapatnam with a stopover at Bhubaneswar,” Mr. Haribabu said.
IndiGo is already operating two daily services from Visakhapatnam to Kolkata. One flight can have a stopover at Bhubaneswar to provide connectivity to all four major cities in the four States, he added.
