Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday appeared before the special magistrate for excise cases at Nampally in connection with three different cases registered against him in Hyderabad, Medak and Nalgonda districts. These cases were related to defamatory comments made against police personnel, alleging that they were working at the behest of BRS. Along with the chief minister, other accused individuals in the cases also appeared before the court.
During the examination, all the accused, including Revanth Reddy, refuted the allegations levelled against them, terming them as false and baseless. The court recorded their examination and scheduled the cases for different dates for further hearings.
The case in Medak relates to Revanth Reddy, who was then the TPCC working president, along with other Congress leaders blocking traffic for an hour, causing inconvenience to commuters on the road under the Kowdipally police station in 2018. Despite police cautioning them to vacate the place, they refused to budge and police registered a case.
The case in Nalgonda was registered at the II Town police station in 2023 following Revanth Reddy’s alleged comments against police personnel. Alleging that the comments damaged the image of police in public and defamed the dignity of the force, a case was registered.
The third case relates to Revanth Reddy’s comments against police personnel made at Gandhi Bhavan, stating that he had noted down the names of Mahabubnagar police personnel in his diary and allegedly made derogatory remarks against the men in khaki. The case was initially registered in Nirmal district and later transferred to the Begum Bazar police station, Hyderabad, for further investigation.
