Vizag cops recover stolen valuables worth over Rs 92 lakh in January

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police achieved a significant milestone in terms of crime prevention and detection. The police recovered stolen goods including gold, bikes, mobile phones, and valuables worth over Rs 92.04 lakh in January this year.
Vizag commissioner of police Shanka Brata Bagchi said a total of 106 property offences were reported in Vizag city last month. The police detected 66 cases, arrested 74 property offenders, recovered over 310 grams of gold ornaments, 536 grams of silver ornaments, Rs 4.5 lakh in cash, seven bikes, one car, one bus, four laptops, 300 mobile phones and few others, all worth over Rs 92.04 lakh from the offenders.
Out of the 66 detected cases, three were robbery cases, one dacoity, 13 house burglary, three chain snatching and multiple vehicle theft cases.
A total of 4,669 mobile phones (stolen and lost phones) worth Rs 7 crore were recovered in the past thirteen months in Vizag city. The police handed over the stolen property to owners during the recovery mela on Tuesday.
The police stated that to prevent future crimes, they have implemented a multi-faceted approach, installed 864 CCTV cameras across the city, significantly enhancing surveillance capabilities. The department also conducted 251 crime awareness meetings to educate the public about criminal activities and prevention strategies. Furthermore, they implemented special patrolling in crime-prone areas.
We have arrested 12 persons in connection with the multi crore cricket betting racket and observed the accused have been organizing offline and online cricket betting. We have found that over 137 bank accounts were used in the illegal betting and transactions worth over Rs 400 crore were made through them., the police chief added.
We are taking measures to prevent possible online and offline betting as the cricket season commences with the ICC Champions Trophy on Feb 19 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the end of March, the police chief added.
