3 IPS officers ordered by Centre to report to AP

Hyderabad: After months of uncertainty, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday directed the Telangana govt to relieve three IPS officers, including two DGP rank officers, and ordered them to report to Andhra Pradesh.
The three officers are Anjani Kumar and Abhilasha Bisht (both DGP rank) and Abhishek Mohanty (SP rank).
Anjani Kumar is currently posted as chairman, Road Safety Authority; Bisht is director of TS Police Academy; and Mohanty is the Karimnagar police commissioner. The three IPS officers were asked to report to AP at the earliest.
After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Anjani Kumar, Bisht and Mohanty were given AP cadre by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). However, the three IPS officers, along with some other IAS officers, challenged the DoPT decision and approached the Central Administration Tribunal (CAT) and obtained a stay.
However, the appellant court later gave an order against the officers and directed them to report in AP.
Earlier, in Oct 2024, it was based on the Telangana high court order that four IAS officers – Amrapali Kata, Ronald Rose, Vakati Karuna and Vani Prasad – from Telangana were asked to report to AP.
At the same time, three IAS officers working in AP, but originally allotted to Telangana, were relieved by the AP govt and told to report to Telangana. The IAS officers were Gummella Srijana, Sivasankar Lotheti, and Chevvuru Hari Kiran.
Since then, there has been speculation that the three IPS officers might also face the same fate. It was on Friday that the Telangana govt got the confirmation to relieve them.
Two years ago, former Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar was asked to report to AP. Later, he took voluntary retirement from AP and worked as chief advisor to the Telangana govt.
