Adilabad: The Telangana government’s efforts on the Indiramma Housing Scheme have revived hopes among applicants, promising them a better chance at owning a house, unlike the previous 2BHK housing initiative. As part of the plan, officials are constructing model Indiramma houses — one in each mandal — to serve as a prototype for beneficiaries.
The Scheme has been garnored overwhelming demand, with 68,000 applications received. The highest Demand has been observed in Nirmal, adilabad, mancherial, and komaram bheem asifabad districts.
In the first phase, 2,806 Indiramma houses have been sanctioned in Adilabad district, covering one village per mandal across 17 mandals. Only applicants with their land have been selected in this initial phase. Housing officials are conducting awareness campaigns to guide beneficiaries on self-constructing their homes.
The government has announced an allocation of 3,500 Indiramma houses per Assembly constituency, with eligible beneficiaries selected in a phased manner.
Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah has directed officials to complete model Indiramma houses before March 10 to demonstrate feasibility to beneficiaries.
In Jainad mandal, construction of a model house is already in progress near the Mandal Parishad Office. On Thursday, Zilla Parishad CEO Jithender Reddy inspected the site and instructed engineers to speed up work.
Housing project director Basaveshwar stated that model Indiramma houses are being constructed in all 17 mandals to eliminate doubts among beneficiaries regarding feasibility.
“Some believe that Rs 5 lakh is insufficient for construction. With model houses, we aim to prove that a well-built home can be completed within this budget,” he said.
Once the first-phase beneficiaries begin construction, they will be shown how to build the basement, walls, flooring, and roof slab within the allocated Rs 5 lakh grant under the scheme.
