Vijayawada: Since 2014, Andhra Pradesh received railway network expansion exceeding the scale of Sri Lanka’s entire railway system, said Hardeep Singh Puri, Union minister for petroleum and natural gas and senior BJP leader. He was speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on the Union Budget 2025.
Additionally, the Centre allocated funds under the PRASAD scheme for development of major temples like Srisailam and Simhachalam, Puri added.
During his address, the Union minister highlighted the BJP-led central govt’s contributions to AP’s development. He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Srikakulam Natural Gas Project in 2022.
Regarding welfare measures, the minister reiterated that the Centre implemented several schemes to support citizens, including provision of free ration to the underprivileged. He assured that the Centre is fully committed to AP’s development, citing investments in irrigation projects, capital city development, and port construction. The establishment of premier educational institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam, Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Tirupati, and Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kurnool was also highlighted as a major initiative to boost education and research in the state.
Puri stated that the 2024-25 budget is the first full-fledged budget under the anticipated Modi 3.0 administration, reaffirming India’s rapid economic growth. He projected that India would soon become the world’s fourth-largest economy. He also highlighted the expansion of airport infrastructure, noting that the number of airports in the country doubled from 75 to 150 under PM Modi’s leadership. The country’s crude oil consumption also increased to 5.5 million barrels per day, reflecting economic growth and industrial expansion.
The Union minister recalled that on Feb 25, 2024, PM Modi had dedicated AIIMS, Mangalagiri to the nation, marking a significant milestone in healthcare infrastructure. Under the smart cities mission, Amaravati, Kakinada, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam have been selected for the urban development.
