Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club (HPRC) will be hosting what is being claimed as India’s largest ever international arena polo tournament in the city from Monday. The tournament will continue upto March 2. The HPRC World Arena Polo Championship 2025 will see participation of two Indian teams along with France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Luxembourg, UK and USA vying for honours.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the club president Chaitania R. Kumar and secretary (admin) Reaz Ahmed and Indian polo player Arsalan Khan, said that they have earmarked 80 top-tier polo horses for the tournament, the matches of which will be held under floodlights all through. Four matches are scheduled for each day, they said.
The Championship will be contested across three categories, including Galaxy Cup, AMR Cup and the Telangana Tourism Cup. Additionally, HPRC will host some special exhibition matches. They include an international women’s arena polo match, just prior to the Galaxy Cup final; a ‘Best of best’ match before the AMR Cup final and the HPRC Cup before the finals of the Telangana Tourism Cup.
They said a fashion show will organised on the concluding day. Apart from t-shirts, a special commemorative edition of a magazine that will showcase detailed insights about the event, participating teams, player profiles and the legacy of HPRC will be released on February 24, Chaitania Kumar said. The sponsors for the event include Telangana Tourism, Galaxy Impex, AMR, Deevyashakti Realty, Inhabit, Incred Wealth Management and Shrewsbury International School, they said.
