Hyderabad’s iconic Banjara hotel sealed over unpaid property tax dues of Rs 1.43 crore | India News

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Friday put a seal on the city’s iconic Banjara hotel (the erstwhile Taj Banjara) over non-payment of property tax amounting to Rs 1.43 crore, pending over the last two years.

The five-star hotel located in the heart of the city has been shut for the last several months due to disputes between the owners and leaseholders.

While the hotel management has yet to issue a statement, a civic official said that the hotel owner paid Rs 55 lakh on Friday morning and promised to pay the rest before March 10.

As per information, the GHMC’s Circle 18 Jubilee Hills tax team distributed demand notices to all property tax defaulters last month as the financial year was ending. While many of them paid up, others who had arrears pending for more than three years and had not paid yet were issued warrants.

“We also issued a warrant to Banjara hotel located at Road No. 13 Banjara Hills. The owner of the hotel responded positively and paid half the tax today through RTGS and agreed to pay the remaining half in a week,” an official said, adding that the hotel’s seal will be removed once the rest of the amount is paid by March 10.
