Vijayawada: Guntur district police recovered 234 stolen and lost mobile phones worth around 46.60 lakh on Friday. The recovered phones were handed over to their rightful owners at the district police office conference hall by additional SP G V Ramana Murthy.
According to the additional SP, many people face distress when they lose their phones or fall victim to theft. Guntur police utilised advanced technology to trace and recover the missing mobile phones without charging any fee from the victims, who expressed their gratitude for the department’s efforts. He advised the public to immediately report any lost or stolen mobile phones by contacting the police helpline at 8688831574 or lodging a complaint on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) website. Officials also warned citizens about the rising threat of cybercrime, where fraudsters misuse mobile phones to scam individuals by promising jobs, business opportunities, or large sums of money, ultimately siphoning funds from their bank accounts. They urged people to stay vigilant, block suspicious calls, and report such incidents to the nearest police station or the national cyber security toll-free number 1930.
