Vijayawada: Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha has ordered the police to adopt a strict stance on the protection of women. She held a review with state DGP Harish Kumar Gupta and other senior police officers at the state secretariat.
Anitha said that the coalition govt has a clear stance on the protection of women. There will be no compromise on education, empowerment and security. They discussed the establishment of help desks and the provision of necessary staff for the protection of women. Key suggestions were given on the design of a special app named ‘Suraksha.’ A special wing was set up for the protection of women and the necessary staff was ordered to be formed and trained.
The home minister ordered that steps be taken to ensure that the design of the app is completed by March 8 (Women’s Day). She advised that everyone should work together for the protection of women and children, and directed that charge sheets be prepared in a robust manner so that accused in Pocso cases are punished expeditiously.
Anitha ordered that security teams be increased in every district and that 24-hour surveillance be maintained. She ordered to take steps to increase awareness among the public on helplines like 112, 181, 1098. Moreover, she said getting closer to people through friendly policing would reduce crimes in the state.

At the same time, she wanted to increase the use of drones. She said strict actions will be taken if women are abused with vulgar language on social media and ordered for steps to raise awareness among the youths on this.
