Bar associations accuse bar council of interference in election process

Hyderabad: Most of the advocates bar associations spread across the state approached the Telangana High Court challenging the regulation and interference of Telangana Bar Council, in the process of their elections.

Led by the Bar Association of Rangareddy district court, around 25 bar associations challenged the model bylaws imposed by the Bar Council of Telangana on all 110 advocates bar associations in Telangana, despite many of them having their own bylaws and the bar associations are registered under the Societies Registration Act.

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High court on Friday heard the petitions and adjourned the matter to February 25, for the counter submissions by the Bar Council of Telangana.

The crux of the matter is that the council had rejected the proposal of the executive bodies of associations, which had sought extending the term of the executive body from one year to two years. Moreover, the bar council issued a memo directing all associations to complete their election process by March 31.
