Vijayawada: The medical and health department of Andhra Pradesh has intensified efforts to provide specialized treatment for Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases across the state. Govt hospitals, including tertiary care centers and district hospitals, have been equipped to handle cases efficiently. Govt has made arrangements to procure 7000 Immunoglobulin injections to treat GBS cases.
GB Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that affects the nervous system, has raised concerns nationwide as cases continue to rise. With reports of multiple cases across Andhra Pradesh, the govt has taken immediate action to enhance treatment facilities and ensure availability of necessary medications.
Special wards have been established in Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati govt hospitals. Medical specialists in general medicine and neurology have been assigned to oversee treatment. The director of medical education (DME) office emphasized the importance of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) injections, a crucial part of GBS treatment. While private hospitals charge up to ₹20,000 per injection, the state govt has made them available for free in govt hospitals.
Health minister Satya Kumar has been closely monitoring GBS cases and overseeing govt responses. “The state govt is fully alert to the situation. Wherever GBS cases are reported, we are ensuring proper medical care. We have stocked 7,000 IVIG injections to ensure uninterrupted treatment for patients,” he stated.
Under the direction of special chief secretary (Health) M T Krishna Babu, Dr. Narasimham, director of medical education, is conducting regular reviews of GBS cases in state-run hospitals. Officials have urged people experiencing GBS symptoms to visit the nearest govt hospital immediately for timely diagnosis and treatment.
