Not many know that unauthorized vapes make up 35% of the tracked US e-cigarette market.
In the latest report, the sales of unauthorized, flavored disposable vapes in the US is at least $2.4 billion in 2024.
The sales were $3.2 billion in 2023 and $2.8 billion in 2022. The US Food and Drug Administration has only authorized 34 tobacco or menthol-flavored vape products for legal sale in the United States, all from tobacco companies like British American Tobacco and Altria.
More than 11,000 unauthorized flavored disposable e-cigarette products on the market from hundreds of brands were tracked by Circana data. This data is from convenience stores and does not include the sales made online, in independent stores, and in specialty vape outlets.
FDA blocked the imports of Esco Bars and Elf Bars in 2024 and they dropped out of the top 10 most sold devices, but other brands have taken their place.
According to the data, the top 10 disposable vapes in the US are Geek Bar Pulse, Breeze Smoke, Raz, Mr. Fog, Breeze Prime, Juicy Bar, Lost Mary, Fuma, Loon Max, and Kangvape.
So, the vapes people are buying with flavors like ‘cotton candy’, cookies, and others are most likely unauthorized flavors.
