HYDERABAD: US-based biopharma giant on Monday opened its new technology and innovation centre in Hyderabad with its CEO Robert Bradway announcing a $200 million investment commitment in the facility through 2025 with additional investments planned in future years.
The new facility, spread over 5.24 lakh sq ft in the heart of Hyderabad’s IT hub of Madhapur will have a capacity to accommodate up to 3,000 people.
The new tech and innovation centre is aimed at accelerating digital capabilities across the global organisation to advance the US-based biotech giant’s pipeline of medicines.
Amgen India, as the new entity is called, will initially build and accelerate new technology solutions and digital capabilities at scale that will enhance efficiencies across the enterprise, the company said.
The site will offer roles that strengthen key areas of the company’s business, including AI, data science, life science, and other additional global capabilities over time, it added.
The company has already appointed Som Chattopadhyay as national executive for India as part of its expanded presence in India.
The company had earlier said it had zeroed in on Hyderabad, where it has acquired six floors in the RMZ Spire project in the heart of Hyderabad’s IT district, because of its world-class talent across medicine, life sciences, and data sciences as well as artificial intelligence (AI).
Flagging off Amgen’s first facility in India, Telangana chief minister Anumula Revanth Reddy said the new site will not just enhance Amgen’s digital capabilities but will also play a key role in Telangana’s ambitions to emerge as the world’s China Plus One destination state. He highlighted the state’s government’s commitment to make Telangana a $ 1 trillion GDP economy.
Amgen, which clocked revenues of over US$28 billion in 2023, has over 28,000 employees with presence in about 100 countries and regions worldwide, including India.
