Centre according top priority to development of Visakhapatnam, says Union Minister

The Central Government wants to ensure that development of Andhra Pradesh starts in Visakhapatnam, and that is the reason why it is according top priority to the city by sanctioning projects and funds for its development, says Union Minister of State for Steel Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma.

Mr. Varma was speaking as chief guest at an ‘Elite Meet’ with experts on the Union Budget 2025-26, at a hotel here on Sunday.

“The Centre has accelerated the work of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters and has also allocated a revival package for RINL-VSP as part of its commitment to develop Visakhapatnam,” Mr. Varma said.

To achieve Viksit Bharat-2047, the Central Government had given special importance to education, health and agriculture in the Budget. He said politics was never a priority in Budget formulation, and that national interest was the main objective. He said the NDA government introduced 33% reservation for women in Parliament.

He said the previous YSRCP government in the State failed to utilise the funds given by the Centre during its tenure.
