GHMC’s Strict Order Fails to Curb Defacement

Hyderabad: Four months after the GHMC imposed a strict ban on unauthorised posters and wall writings, the city remains covered with colourful advertisements. Movie posters and political banners continue to flood public spaces, serving as little more than additional publicity, and there have been writings on the walls.

GHMC officials cite heavy workloads as the reason for inaction. “The entire GHMC team, including the deputy commissioner, has multiple responsibilities,” an official told Deccan Chronicle.

Despite the order being issued on September 27 to keep the city clean and improve its appearance, no major meetings have been held with political or film industry representatives to address the issue. And even after four months, posters still cover the city’s streets, showing that the problem has not been solved.

The municipal body has not taken strong steps against those breaking the rule, raising concerns about how well it is enforcing the order.

“In areas where rich people live, the walls look well-maintained. But in other parts of the city, walls are still covered with many layers of posters,” Sourav Raj, a post-production assistant at a private company, told Deccan Chronicle.

“Maybe in a couple of years after the government will realise that its own orders need enforcement and officials will do something about this. But I think the government usually does not act fast,”
