NTR – Prashanth Neel’s upcoming film is shaping up to be a full-fledged period action drama set in the 1960s, as per the latest buzz.
Earlier, reports suggested that the movie would be based in Calcutta (not Kolkata, as the timeline is set when the city was still called Calcutta).

Now, fresh updates confirm that the entire story unfolds in real-time without any flashbacks or time jumps—a first for Prashanth Neel.
After six months since the project was officially launched, the regular shoot recently commenced at Ramoji Film City. The team filmed intense riot sequences on the streets, hinting at the film’s politically charged setting.

A recently released working still from the sets, featuring a vintage Ambassador car and old bicycles, further strengthened speculation about the film’s timeline.
Unlike Prashanth Neel’s previous works, this film appears to have a purely 1960s backdrop, with no past-present narrative shifts.

With Bengal’s political unrest in the 1960s as its backdrop, the film is expected to showcase a hard-hitting, raw action drama. NTR’s look and character will reportedly be designed to match the period setting, and large-scale Bengal-inspired sets are already being constructed.
However, as always, Prashanth Neel is sticking to his trademark grey-toned aesthetics, evident from the posters and initial glimpses.
NTR and Neel combo itself is very exciting, but we have to see how Telugu audiences will react to this drama set in Calcutta.
However, the film has better chances to connect on a pan-India level as there has been a lot of noise lately about politics happening in Kolkata. The subject might pique huge interest on National level.
