Thai AirAsia on Tuesday launched a new international flight connecting Bangkok to Visakhapatnam, marking the second international service from Vizag Airport since the COVID-19 pandemic.
With this, Visakhapatnam Airport has marked a significant milestone, connecting the city to the prominent international destination.
Announcing the details, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) mentioned on X, “The addition of numerous flight routes from AAI’s Visakhapatnam Airport, this airport will soon emerge as a dynamic airport soaring to remarkable heights.”
The Bangkok-Vizag-Bangkok flight took off from Bangkok at 10:05 PM local time in Thailand. It touches down in Vizag at 11:20 PM Indian local time. Upon its arrival at the Visakhapatnam Airport, the inaugural flight was greeted with a customary water cannon salute, signaling the beginning of a new era in air travel for the region.
Further, AirAsia is set to commence another flight service to Kuala Lumpur from Vizag on April 26.
India-Thai expand aviation collaboration
The launch of flight routes by Thai Air Asia from Visakhapatnam Airport represents a major development in the India-Thailand aviation sector. This new connection enhances passenger travel options and strengthens the ties between the two countries.
In 2022, AirAsia resumed its flights connecting India with Malaysia and Thailand. After two years of COVID-19-induced suspension, India resumed regular international flights on March 27, 2022.
The introduction of Thai Air Asia’s services underscores the airport’s potential to cater to a diverse range of destinations and passenger preferences.
