Villagers, police foil ATM theft attempt

Kurnool: ATM theft attempt was foiled by alert villagers and Ulindakonda police in Chinna Tekuru village, Kurnool district, early Monday.

Unidentified thieves tried to steal a Bank of Baroda ATM using a towing vehicle, attempting to break the shutter and pull the machine out with ropes. Suspicious villagers quickly alerted Ulindakonda Sub-Inspector Dhanunjay.

Police teams, led by Sub-Inspectors Dhanunjay and Sunil from Orvakal, along with villagers, chased the suspects. Realizing they were being pursued, the thieves abandoned the attempt and fled, leaving the towing vehicle behind on the highway.

Kurnool DSP J. Babu Prasad and Rural Circle Inspector Chandrababu Naidu later felicitated the youths—M. Mahesh, Shaik Ilyas, Dilawar Shaik Abdul Rahman, and Molla Haneef Basha—at the DSP’s office for their role in preventing the theft.
