Hyderabad: In a swift operation, Cyberabad police rescued an eight-month-old boy who was abducted from his parents while they slept on a footpath in Fatehnagar, Sanath Nagar. After a dramatic 150-km chase across districts, the kidnappers were apprehended, and the child was safely returned to his relieved parents.
The suspects were remanded in judicial custody, said K Suresh Kumar, DCP, Balanagar zone. The accused have been identified as Satyanarayana Ram and Sunny Kumar Pandey.
According to police, the family had been staying in huts near the railway tracks in Fatehnagar, often sleeping on a footpath nearby. On Feb 23 morning, the parents woke up to find their son missing. Initially, neighbours suggested the child may have been taken by stray dogs, prompting a search in the nearby areas.
However, as the search yielded no results, the parents reported the kidnapping to police. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area and identified two individuals moving suspiciously near the huts around the time the child disappeared. The footage was circulated among local residents, and one of them recognised Ram.
When police visited his home, Ram was not present, but technical leads indicated that he was headed towards Nizamabad on NH-44. Multiple teams from Cyberabad police immediately launched a pursuit. After losing track of Ram’s vehicle, police relied on additional technical leads to intercept him near the Indalwai toll plaza in Nizamabad. There, they rescued the child.
Ram, a private company driver in Fateh Nagar, had no children of his own. Police revealed that he had planned the kidnapping after seeing the child, and enlisted Pandey’s help to carry out the crime. The two were arrested while attempting to flee in a vehicle provided to Ram by his employer.
