Visakhapatnam: State govt has constituted Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) for the development area of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). It had earlier declared the ‘development area’ for VMRDA, extending 6,501 sqkm with headquarters at Visakhapatnam.
The principal secretary of municipal administration and urban development will be the chairman of the UMTA, while the VMRDA metropolitan commissioner will serve as the member convener. The finance department secretary, GVMC commissioner, Vizag police commissioner, collectors of Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram districts, Vizianagaram municipal corporation commissioner, transport commissioner, and others will be members.
Three experts, one each from AU, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, and Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, will be included. These experts, would be nominated by their respective institutions from time to time.
