Hyderabad: Three men have been arrested for the murder of an elderly woman whose body was found in the well at her house on Saturday in Marpally village in Vikarabad. All the three accused are from the same village.
The victim, Vinoda (60), had been staying alone in the house since the death of her husband during Covid-19 pandemic. On Friday night, the accused – Sonaila Raju and Nayakwadi Shafiuddin, both farmers; and Begari Narsimulu, an auto driver – had entered her home to steal, police said.
But when Vinoda woke up, the accused caught hold of her, covered her mouth, snatched her gold chain and then dumped her alive in the well, police said. Later, they they rummaged through the house, stole some cash and set the articles on fire before leaving.
Neighbours who noticed the fire alerted cops and her daughter living in Ptancheru. They later found her footwear near the well and subsequently her body inside it.
During the probe, police got a tip-off that on the day of the murder the three accused were found heavily drunk and wandered in the village.
During questioning they admitted to killing the woman, said a cop.
“They went to loot the house for some easy money, but ended up killing her,” said Vikarabad DSP N Srinivas Reddy.
