Hyderabad: Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) here on Thursday arrested persons including an inter-State supplier in connection with a ganja smuggling case.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bala Hantal alias Steeve alias Raju alias Ranju, a supplier and native of Odisha, Srinivasulu, a peddler and Abhishek alias Abhi, a delivery boy, both residents of Kukatpally and native of Andhra Pradesh.
As many as 41.13 kgs of ganja, an electric packing machine, a bike, three mobile phones and Rs.40,440 in cash were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.
The police said Bala, who cultivates ganja, supplies it to needy peddlers in and around Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad. He also procures ganja from one Kalyan Roy of Odisha whenever it is not available with him.
Srinivasulu previously worked as an IT employee in Cyber Security. He left the job as his salary is not sufficient to lead his lavish life. In the meantime, he also became addicted to the online games, lost his earnings and even borrowed money through hand loans from his friends.
Through his friends he later learned that one of his native friends is earning easy money by selling ganja. In an attempt to earn easy money, he hatched a plan to sell the contraband by procuring it from Odisha from one of his sources.
He then contacted Bala through Kalyan Roy and purchased ganja at Rs.5,000 per kg at Araku and sold it in Hyderabad in small quantities to needy consumers. In the initial stage, he used to sell ganja sachets containing 30 to 50 grams for Rs.1,000 to 2,000. He then started to procure in bulk quantities and selling the same to the needy customers in and around Hyderabad and earning easy money of Rs.40,000 per kg and enjoying his lavish life.
Abhishekm who worked as a salesman in a clothing store, is a friend of Srinivasulu. He left his job due to the meagre income as a salesman and joined hands with Srinivasulu to sell the ganja. He was now delivering ganja to the needy customers in and around Hyderabad following instructions of Srinivasulu for which he is getting commission on each packet.
Following credible information, the police arrested them in Madhura Nagar police limits.
