Vijayawada: YSRCP leader and former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi urged the magistrate to place another prisoner in his cell instead of keeping him alone, citing health complications and asthma. He stated that he has no security concerns and insisted that another prisoner be lodged with him.
Vamsi made the request when he was presented before the magistrate after his three-day police custody ended on Thursday. He was in custody in connection with the alleged abduction and threatening of Mudunuri Satyavardhan, the complainant in the Gannavaram TDP office attack case registered at Patamata police station. The magistrate informed Vamsi that an attender has already been appointed for him, and added that as an in-charge judge, he can not decide to place another prisoner in his cell. The judge further remarked that the authorities would be held responsible if anything happened inside the cell.
The court suggested Vamsi’s counsel to file a formal memo on Friday, requesting a change in the jail cell. Additionally, the court directed the jail superintendent to station a warden near Vamsi’s cell. The govt pleader informed the court that, for Vamsi’s safety, he was being kept alone in the cell, but they have no objection in assigning a warden to monitor his health. Vamsi was later shifted to Vijayawada sub-jail.
ACP (Vijayawada central) K Damodar Rao said police have gathered evidence regarding Vamsi and his associates’ involvement in Satyavardhan’s abduction. “We interrogated Vamsi for three days and have collected crucial CCTV and technical evidence related to the case. While he cooperated with the police and answered our questions, he denied any knowledge about the missing phone,” the ACP said. He further revealed that Vamsi admitted to meeting former chief minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Feb 12. Police plan to file another petition seeking the custody of Vamsi and other accused to gather additional details.
