Vijayawada: NTR district police commissioner S V Rajashekara Babu announced the enforcement of revised traffic fines under the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, following the directives of the Andhra Pradesh high court.
The commissioner instructed the city traffic department to implement these penalties from March 1. To ensure motorists are aware of the new regulations, police launched an extensive awareness campaign. Information about the fines is being disseminated through print media, electronic media, FM radio, and digital display boards at key traffic junctions across the city. Officials urged commuters to familiarise themselves with the revised penalties to avoid violations. With the “M-Parivahan” app updated accordingly, violators now face stricter fines. Key penalties include a 1,000 fine for both the rider and the pillion passenger if they fail to wear helmets. Driving without valid insurance results in a 2,000 fine for the first offence and 4,000 for subsequent violations. Those caught driving without a license are fined 5,000, while vehicles without a valid pollution certificate attract a 1,500 fine.
