After buying a Samsung Smart TV, when you turn it on for the first time, it takes you through the setup process. During that, one of the things it shows you is Smart Hub Privacy Notice about collecting user data for offering a better user experience. You can opt-in or opt-out.

To people who opted-in, it turns out that their TVs are now reminding them of the privacy status. More importantly, if they are opting-out from Smart Hub’s user data collection service, they are being notified that Samsung will contact them in 15 days, which seems unusual.

Samsung TVs reminding people about Smart Hub privacy repeatedly

On BlueSky, a person from Dallas, Texas reports that their Samsung QN65 TV started showing them a notification that their TV may collect information about how they use it, as you can see in the image below. According to them, the notification kept popping up throughout the day over content they were watching despite dismissing it each time.

In an attempt to get rid of the notification once and for all, they tried opting-out of Smart Hub’s data collection service. That’s when their TV allegedly notified them that Samsung will contact them within 15 days. That’s very unusual. It suggests that Samsung may be making changes to their TVs’ privacy policy.

How to get rid of the annoying privacy notifications on Samsung TVs?

Our Samsung S90C OLED TV in India hasn’t sent us any notification about privacy status yet. We also opted-out of Smart Hub’s user data collection service to see what happens, and we didn’t get any notification about Samsung contacting us. So, it looks like this issue is either model-specific or region-specific, or both. We will dig into it and let you know what we find.

In the meantime, if you too are getting these notifications, you can get rid of them by going to Settings » All Settings » General & Privacy » Terms & Privacy » Privacy Choices » Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy and option out from Smart Hub’s Viewing Information Services and Interest-Based Advertisements Service Privacy Notice.
