Nizamabad: Two underground CPI-Maoist members surrendered before police in Kamareddy on Friday. Gurrala Vijay Kumar (36), alias Akash from Charla village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, a technical team member, and Sodi Balakrishna (23) from Pedda Utlapally village in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, appeared before Kamareddy SP Ch. Sindhu Sharma.
Vijay Kumar had joined the party in 2022 under senior leader Hidma, while Balakrishna became a militia committee member in 2018. Both had been involved in several encounters with police and attacks on CRPF camps. They surrendered to start a normal life with their families, with SP Sharma noting that disillusioned extremists are increasingly opting for a change. She added that several native CPI-Maoist leaders from Kamareddy continue to operate in Chhattisgarh.
