Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday (November 9) set a deadline for officials to complete the Rs 611-crore integrated terminal building project at Gannavaram Airport (Vijayawada Airport) by June 2025.
The Chief Minister outlined this target during a review meeting on the airport expansion works, held at his residence in Undavalli. Union Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu also attended the meeting.
“He (CM) set June 2025 as the target for completing the Rs 611-crore new integrated terminal building,” said an official press release.
According to an official press release, officials briefed the Chief Minister that approximately 60 percent of the expansion work has already been completed, while the air traffic control (ATC) tower, valued at Rs 85 crore, is 52 per cent complete.
Airport design to reflect Andhra’s cultural heritage
During the meeting, Naidu emphasised that the design of the airport should showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state. He specifically requested that the terminal building be designed with Kuchipudi-themed elements to reflect the traditional art form.
Five new airstrips coming soon in Andhra
In addition, the Chief Minister announced plans for the construction of five new airstrips in the state, to be located in Mulapeta, Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Tadepalligudem, and one more between Anantapur and Tadipatri.
