A NREGA field assistant was murdered by unidentified assailants at Arikera village in Aluru mandal on Friday. The victim has been identified as Bandari Kuruva Eranna (45) of Arikera village. He was working as a contract employee since the past five years.
According to the police, unidentified persons attacked Eranna with hunting knives while he was returning home alone from the fields on a motorcycle, on the outskirts of the village. Police said he was under pressure from the local politicians to resign his post as they wanted to fill the same with their supporters. He has reportedly agreed to resign also, police added.
A case has been registered and investigation is on to nab the accused.
