The counting of votes polled in the Legislative Council elections for the Medak – Nizamabad – Adilabad – Karimnagar Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies will begin at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar at 8 a.m. on Monday.
The constituencies have recorded a voter turnout of 70.42% and 91.90% respectively. All eyes are on the outcome of the keenly fought Graduates Constituency election as both Congress and BJP are vying to win the Graduates’ segment.
The electoral prospects of 56 candidates including the Congress party candidate V Narender Reddy, BJP candidate Chinnamile Anji Reddy and the BSP candidate Prasanna Harikrishna will be known when the counting of votes will commence at 8 a.m. on Monday.
The fate of 15 candidates in the fray from the Teachers Constituency will also be decided when the counting process will be taken up. The elaborate exercise of counting of votes is expected to last for more than 24 hours due to the preferential voting system, official sources said.
Around 800 staff have been deployed for the counting duties to ensure smooth conduct of the process amid tight security arrangements.
