Fifth infant rescued by NTR district police in child trafficking case

Vijayawada: NTR district police successfully rescued a fifth infant as part of their ongoing crackdown on child trafficking networks. The search continues for two more infants.
Acting on credible intelligence, a team led by task force ADCP A Srinivasa Rao, along with ACP K Latha Kumari and North ACP Sravanti Roy, intensified their operations against illegal child trafficking.
On March 1, 2025, police arrested five women involved in an illegal child trafficking racket that targeted childless couples. Three children, who were being prepared for illegal sale, were rescued and taken into safe custody.
Further investigations led to the identification of two more trafficked infants. One was found in Palakollu, West Godavari district on Monday, and another from Rajahmundry on Sunday. A special team, led by ACP K Latha Kumari, comprising task force and women’s police station personnel, conducted a rescue operation, and handing the baby over to the department of women and child welfare.
With this latest rescue, the total number of infants saved rose to five. Police commissioner S V Rajasekhara Babu reaffirmed the district police’s commitment in combating child trafficking and ensuring the safety of children. Police urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to child trafficking to facilitate swift action against such heinous crimes.
Investigations are ongoing to trace additional victims and identify other suspects involved in the racket.
