The State government on Monday authorised the Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL) to file a requisition for land acquisition for Phase-I of the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects as per No. 3 of the A.P. Right to Fair Compensation & Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Rules of 2014.
A memo to this effect was issued by Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration & Urban Development) S. Suresh Kumar.
It was stated that the government had approved the Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for Phase-I of both the projects in December 2024, and the Collectors of Visakhapatnam, NTR and Krishna districts were instructed to take action for land acquisition.
The APMRCL had estimated that the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail required almost 100 acres and the one in Vijayawada needed 91 acres, expected to cost about ₹882 crore and ₹1,152 crore respectively.
