‘Probe graft in Rajiv Swagruha scheme’

Hyderabad: The Forum for Good Governance (FGG) has requested CM evanth Reddy to order an inquiry into irregularities in the implementation of the Rajiv Swagruha Scheme. The scheme, launched in 2007, was intended to provide affordable housing to the urban middle class by offering flats and houses at 25% less than market rates. However, the organisation claims the project was mismanaged, leaving many allottees without proper housing, FGG said in a letter to the chief minister.
The scheme set a target of constructing 3,716 flats and 556 houses, in all 4,272 units. By the time it closed in 2013, only 2,956 flats were completed and allotted, while just 195 of the planned houses were built, many of which remain incomplete. The letter states that 1,809 crore was spent on the project, including 919 crore borrowed from various banks. While 763 crore was recovered from allottees, the scheme still accounts for a financial shortfall of 1,046 crore.
