Hyderabad Techie Dies by Suicide Amid Dowry Harassment Allegations, Husband Booked

A 25-year-old software professional was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad’s Prashanti Hills, Raidurgam, in an alleged case of dowry harassment. The incident, which took place on Sunday night, has sparked widespread outrage, with her husband, Sharath Chandra, now facing serious charges.

The deceased Devika and Sharath Chandra had been married for just six months, after tying the knot in Goa. The couple were previously in a relationship and married with the consent of their families, as per a report on The New Indian Express. According to her family, the young woman endured persistent physical and mental abuse from her husband, who allegedly pressured her for additional dowry. He reportedly demanded to transfer the ownership of a house on her name to his name.

Sharath Chandra, who discovered her body the next morning, alerted both the authorities and her family. Following a formal complaint by Devika’s mother, the Raidurgam police registered a case under dowry harassment laws and initiated a detailed investigation.

Family Alleges Harassment

In her complaint, Devika’s mother accused Sharath Chandra of coercing her daughter to transfer ownership of a house that was registered in her name, reported PTI. She further claimed that Devika faced continuous verbal and physical abuse, ultimately pushing her to take the extreme step.

Reports indicate that on the night of the incident, the couple had an argument over a trivial issue, allegedly the TV remote. Following the quarrel, Sharath Chandra reportedly left the house. When he returned the next morning, he found Devika dead.

Both Devika and Sharath Chandra worked at the same software company and had known each other for two years before marriage. Police officials are now gathering evidence, witness statements, and digital records.
