Government-run Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad completed its 100th Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Committee (HICC) meeting on Wednesday.
The hospital has implemented several major initiatives to strengthen infection control measures. One of the key efforts includes the development of checklists to calculate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP), and Surgical Site Infections (SSI). Additionally, exclusive Infection Control Nursing (ICN) Officers conduct daily audits to enhance patient safety, said a release.
Further measures include prescription audits and the collection of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) data by the Clinical Pharmacology department, aimed at optimising antibiotic use. The hospital has also increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection in high-risk areas, ensuring a more hygienic environment for patients and healthcare workers. Moreover, air sampling is regularly conducted to monitor environmental safety within operating rooms, reinforcing infection control efforts.
