Popular playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar attempted suicide at her Nizampet, Hyderabad residence on March 2. It is reportedly believed that the singer consumed sleeping pills. According to reports, she was found unconscious at her residence and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The singer is currently stable and on ventilator support.
It was the apartment security who alerted the residents after Kalpana did not open her door for two days. Her neighbours contacted the police, after which due procedures were followed. The exact reason behind her suicide attempt remains unknown.
Kalpana’s husband was in Chennai at the time of the incident. Upon hearing the news, he rushed to Hyderabad.
Kalpana is the daughter of noted playback singer TS Raghavendra. She took part in Star Singer Malayalam and won the title in 2010. Following her win, she collaborated with many notable composers, including Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. Hailing from a musical family, she started her career at the age of five.
In her long career, she has recorded over 1,500 songs in multiple languages. Apart from singing, Kalpana also had a brief acting stint with a cameo in Kamal Haasan-starrer Punnagai Mannan.
Kalpana took part in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1, hosted by Jr NTR. Some of her recent famous songs include Kodi Parakura Kaalam from AR Rahman’s Maamannan and Telangana Tejam from Keshava Chandra Ramavath. She has also been a judge on singing-based reality shows.
