Safety at the workplace, particularly in the hazardous industries, is essential to prevent unforeseen accidents and loss of lives, said M.V. Siva Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Guntur, on Wednesday.
Mr. Reddy participated in a safety awareness programme conducted at the Small Can Filling Plant of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited in Mangalagiri during the ongoing 54th National Safety Week celebrations.
While honouring some workers with the ‘Heroes at Workplace’ title, Mr. Reddy observed that all factories should follow safety precautions without deviation. He said that the staff should also be aware of workplace safety to avoid accidents.
On this occasion, B. Kamalakara Rao, senior plant manager at Indian Oil Corporation Limited, said that the company has selected some of its workers as the ‘Heroes at Workplace’ based on their performance in taking safety precautions as prescribed by the organisation.
As part of the safety awareness programme, the employees’ family members also participated, and they were shown the nature of the employees’ work.
Mr. Kamalakara Rao told The Hindu, “We give the highest priority for safety at our small can filling station. If we find any problem in the safety of employees, we first stop the work, solve it and then only allow them to continue the work.”
