Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar will be the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, scheduled on March 7 in Vijayawada.
At a press conference on Wednesday (March 5), Siddhartha Academy president M. Rajayya said the golden jubilee celebrations would continue through March up to December this year. Tracing the humble roots of the P. B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science (Junior and Degree Colleges) started by the Academy on August 12 in 1975 with 250 life members and 300 students and 25 lecturers in Vijayawada and Vuyyuru, he said it had gone from strength to strength over the years. “Today, the Academy has under its wings 18 institutions with a strength of 3,500 faculty members and 30,000 students,” Mr. Rajayya said.
The Academy secretary P. Lakshman Rao said P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science (Junior and Degree) in Vijayawada and AG and S.G. Siddhartha Junior and Degree Colleges at Vuyyuru had completed five decades of their existence.
The Academy’s joint secretary N. Lalitha Prasad and Vice-Chancellor of Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education-Deemed to be University P.V. Rao said the UGC Chairman would formally open Y.V. Rao Siddhartha Indoor Sports Complex, lay the foundation stone for administrative buildings and will also launch the logo of the golden jubilee celebrations.
Joint secretary of the Academy S. Vishnu, Pro-Chancellor of Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education Ratna Prasad, Director of P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science V. Baburao and Principal M. Ramesh were present at the press conference.
