27-Year-Old Telangana Student Shot Dead in Suspected Robbery in the US

A 27-year-old Indian student from Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district was shot dead in a suspected robbery when thieves opened fire at a store where he worked part-time in Milwaukee, US, early on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Gampa Praveen, was pursuing his master’s degree in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On Wednesday morning, Praveen’s family was informed by US authorities that his body had been found with bullet wounds.

According to reports, his father received a WhatsApp call from him at 5 AM but was unable to answer it. When Praveen didn’t return the call for a long time, his father grew suspicious and reached out to his son’s friends. It was then that he was informed Praveen had been shot dead by robbers.

US authorities have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.

Praveen’s distressed family, natives of Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad, has appealed to local political leaders and MLAs for assistance.

Praveen had completed his bachelor’s degree in technology from Hyderabad before moving to the US in 2023 to pursue his master’s. He had last visited his family in India in December and returned to the US in January this year.

According to a PTI report, two similar cases of Telangana students being killed in the US have been reported in recent months.
In November 2024, a student from Telangana’s Khammam city was allegedly shot dead in the US and in January 2025, another student from Hyderabad met a similar fate.
