Cadaver dogs & robotics team enter SLBC to locate workers

Hyderabad: The two cadaver dogs from Kerala, which were deployed to locate the eight missing persons following the partial collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) roof, have identified two locations near the tail end of the tunnel boring machine (TBM). Interestingly, the same locations were pinpointed by sniffer dogs from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The cadaver dogs are highly skilled in detecting human remains, even at a depth of 10 feet. At the identified location, which is approximately eight feet deep, Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) and other workers have started lifting silt from the same location.
Official sources stated that the TBM is generally a three-storey structure. The top storey was removed earlier, and now the rescue teams are working at the second level of the tunnel boring machine.
As the rescue operations entered their 14th day, officials are hopeful of identifying the missing persons by Saturday. Meanwhile, a four-member ANVI robotics team entered the tunnel to search for the eight trapped workers following the tunnel collapse on February 22. The robotics team is accompanied by a professor from IIT Madras. Before venturing into the tunnel, the professor conducted an inspection of the surroundings.
Telangana special chief secretary Arvind Kumar, is also overseeing the rescue operations at the site.
