CM pitches Hyd as ideal host for 2036 Olympics

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday declared that Hyderabad far surpasses Ahmedabad—”100 times better”—in terms of infrastructure, sports facilities, and overall amenities, making it an ideal city to host the Olympic Games.
At the India Today Conclave 2025 in Delhi, the CM not only emphasised the city’s superior infrastructure but also proposed Hyderabad as a potential venue for the 2036 Olympics, urging the nation to consider the city’s growing global stature.
“If the Miss World pageant can be conducted in Hyderabad, why not the Olympics?” Revanth wondered, referring to the upcoming 72nd Miss World competition to be held in Hyderabad in May. This will mark the second time the prestigious event is hosted in India, with the city as the chosen venue.
Hyderabad has already hosted major international events, including the World Military Games, National Games, and the Afro-Asian Games. “I made a representation to Union sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya for the Olympic Games. We have world class infrastructure,” said Revanth, highlighting the success of athletes from Telangana like Nikhat Zareen, Sania Mirza, and PV Sindhu, who have excelled at the Olympics and other international events.
The CM took a swipe at Ahmedabad’s infrastructure, questioning, “Does Ahmedabad have an outer ring road or an international airport to compete with Hyderabad? Does it have pharma investments, IT investments? What does Gujarat have to offer?”
Revanth clarified that Hyderabad isn’t in competition with Ahmedabad, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, but with global cities like New York, Seoul, and Tokyo. He went on to emphasise Telangana’s commitment to making Hyderabad the world’s best city within five years. “Through the Future City Development Authority, we are developing a magnificent city on 30,000 acres. Visit us in five years, and I’m going to construct the world’s best city,” he added.
On the subject of Gujarat’s industrial investments, Revanth pointed out that Telangana produces 35 per cent of India’s bulk drugs and was responsible for one-third of the Covid-19 vaccines administered in the country. He claimed that Hyderabad’s growth in the IT sector has no comparison to Gujarat’s.
On being told that credit has to be given to former chief ministers N Chandrababu Naidu, YS Rajasekhar Reddy, and K Chandrasekhar Rao for Hyderabad’s development,
When asked about credit for the development of Hyderabad to former chief ministers N Chandrababu Naidu, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and K Chandrasekhar Rao, Revanth said development has been continuously evolving over centuries.
He esponded, “Your truth is incomplete. Hyderabad’s development has been ongoing for 450 years, first under the Qutb Shahis, then the Nizams, followed by the British and successive state govts. Did Naidu develop Charminar or Golconda Fort? While leaders change, the policies for the city’s growth continue.”
