Adilabad: Four people were booked for allegedly smuggling rice meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) from Hyderabad to Madhya Pradesh in a truck on NH-44, at Bhoraj village in Jainath mandal on Friday.
Police seized 290 quintals of rice worth Rs 15 lakh and the truck from them. Superintendent of Police Gaush Alam said a case was registered against truck driver Tahir, truck owner Md Nazeem and traders Naganath and Shafi.
Tahir was caught when he was transporting the rice in the truck at a bus stand on NH-44.
Alam commended Adilabad DSP Jeevan Reddy, Jainath Inspector Sainath and Sub-Inspector Purushottam for intercepting the truck and seizing the rice.
