How I ended up selling my used Corolla Altis back to its first owner

From the heavy heart that I carried, I felt happy that the car was going back to someone who actually did love the car.

BHPian freakmuzik recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Finally, time has come to say goodbye to my dear Altis. I kept thinking again and again regarding this decision – whether I am making the right choice or not. But, I decided to go with the flow, trust my intuition and my gut feeling about changing the car. I put an ad on various places and kept getting a lot of calls – dealers and individuals equally.

In the mean time, two individuals contacted me (later figured one was a T-Bhpian as well) and was in discussions with them.

Now the drama starts – I took one final trip to Pondicherry with my parents and I adored the way the car behaved on the highways – so planted, relaxed, excellent AC and ride comfort. My mind started talking again about my decision. Later, I spoke to @vigsom over the phone and yet again this discussion came up. I later decided to go sleep and ponder about this topic the next morning with a fresh mind. Once I woke up, I got a call from a number and it was a lady who was asking me regarding the Altis. I asked her name and where she was from. From then on, something was very intriguing about it. It resembled the first owners name and the location. Though hesitant, I called her back right away and asked her ‘I hope you don’t mind me asking this, but were you the First owner of this car?’ And she replied ‘Oh, so you found out!’ And we both ended that with a laughter. I later got to meet her and the family when they came to check out the car and they also owned a 95 Maruti 800 which was maintained impressively well. They were also kind enough to offer me a short drive.

From the heavy heart that I carried, I felt happy that the car was going back to someone who actually did love the car. Imagine the odds of me planning to sell this, and the owners’ son ending up looking out for an Altis ad and eventually looking at this very ad (with number plates masked) and still identifying the car just with the bumper protector and some other bits. All this felt very timely and hence I wholeheartedly decided to part ways with the car.

Took the last two days to jot down every expense I incurred and wanted to share this with the hope that it would help anyone looking at the used car route, especially when looking at a 10-12 year old examples from a higher segment.

Odo: 54,805 to 71,895 = 17,090 kms in 2 years and 11 months
Average of 488 km a month or 5,600 km a year.

I have recorded all other expenses and stats from the 2nd week of ownership and here they are:

Thank you for everyone who has helped and guided me with this ownership phase. Special thanks again to @vigsom for mentoring me throughout this phase. Guess what, it was @vigsom himself who first softly mentioned Jimny once during a call and now I own a Jimny! Soon, I look forward to him telling me ‘LC 200’ or a ‘911’ and I’ll look forward to it manifesting
