Telangana government has announced the establishment of Future City Development Authority (FCDA) to spearhead the creation of a net-zero fourth city. The proposed city will span 30,000 acres between Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways, covering 56 villages across seven mandals. As part of this initiative, 36 villages currently under Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will be transferred to the newly formed FCDA.
‘Future City’ Development
The decision was approved during a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. To ensure the project’s smooth execution, the Cabinet sanctioned 90 posts in the FCDA, comprising both regular and outsourced positions. Briefing the media on the development, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy emphasised the government’s focus on balanced urban development and administrative efficiency.
In addition to establishing the FCDA, the state government has expanded the jurisdiction of HMDA to align with the Regional Ring Road (RRR). This expansion brings 11 districts, 104 mandals, and 1,355 villages under HMDA’s ambit, with an additional 332 revenue villages added to its planning framework, as per a report on IANS.
Telangana Cabinet Meet
Addressing a politically significant issue, the Cabinet also discussed Parliamentary constituency delimitation, expressing concerns that the proposed changes might disproportionately impact South India. To address this, the government has decided to convene an all-party meeting to demand an increase in Lok Sabha seats for the southern states, ensuring fair representation in Parliament.
On the social welfare front, the Cabinet approved a draft bill for the sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes (SCs), based on the recommendations of the Justice Shamim Akhtar Commission. The Commission’s second report, submitted on March 2, upheld its previous findings, and the bill is set to be introduced in the upcoming Assembly session. Additionally, the government has raised reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies from 37% to 42%, while also drafting legislation to extend the same quota to education and government employment.
