Hyderabad: The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes has written to the special chief secretary of the finance department requesting caste-wise details of employees working in various govt departments, local bodies, corporations, and agencies.
Commission chairman G Niranjan addressed the media on Friday, claiming that letters had been sent to Kaloji Narayana Rao University, director of school education, the Board of Intermediate Education, and the secretary of higher education, asking for caste-wise details of students.
In addition, the commission has sought information from the director general of the Centre for Good Governance regarding the caste-wise distribution of scholarships provided to students. They also reached out to the planning department to request the data collected through the SEEEPC Survey–2024, to assist with further analysis.
Niranjan expressed the commission’s appreciation for the cabinet’s decision to provide 42% reservation for Backward Classes in education, employment, and local bodies, calling it a significant and long-awaited step for the BC community.
“The people of Telangana are eager for the bill to be passed unanimously in the assembly. The commission urges all members, both inside and outside the assembly, to express their support for the bill with unity. The role of the central govt is crucial in ensuring the bill’s enactment and implementation. Leaders from all parties should come together and approach the Prime Minister to show a unified front on this matter,” he said.
Niranjan announced that the commission will urge the state govt to extend BC reservations to cooperative societies, and to make the necessary amendments in the current legislative session. The commission also called on the state govt to expand the statutory powers of the commission for more effective functioning.
