Govt will bring teachers transfers act soon: Lokesh | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: HRD and IT minister Nara Lokesh said that the govt will bring teachers transfers act soon to prevent political interference in transfers.
He informed that he already held consultations with various teachers’ associations and legislators to take feedback on the issue. He said that the govt has invited suggestions from all teachers with an aim to bring a model act in taking up teachers’ transfers in the most transparent manner.
Clearing apprehensions on many issues related to the education department in the assembly on Friday, Lokesh said that the govt has decided to announce seniority lists of teachers for the first time in history. “We will give an opportunity to all teachers to come up with suggestions and objections on the seniority lists. The DEO will take measures to correct these lists if any errors are found. All the transfers will be done based on seniority without any outside influence,” said Lokesh.
By eliminating irregularities in the tenders process of purchasing chikkis, eggs and school kits, the minister explained that the govt will save Rs 1,000 crore in the next five years. “We have saved Rs 63 crore in chikkis alone, and it would amount to around Rs 300 crore in the five years. There will be a saving of up to Rs 70 crore in school kits too. There has also been a reduction of 10 to 12 percent in purchase of eggs,” said Lokesh and informed that officials were directed to maintain quality even after the reduction of prices.
Lokesh said that the govt will introduce Maharashtra model of semester-wise system. He informed that about 2.53 lakh teachers were appointed through DSCs between 1994 and 2024 and 71 per cent of them were recruited when TDP was in power. He further promised to issue DSC notification in March and fill 16,347 vacancies by June.
Meanwhile, he lashed out at former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for destroying the education system by introducing IB, CBSE and TOEFL without proper homework.
He informed that the govt is planning to set up a world-class institute for teacher training in Amaravati and added that they will also introduce a chapter on Indian constitution in the curriculum.
